Just wanted NBC to know that last night's Fear Factor (11-5-2002), as far as I'm concerned, was proof that NBC will do ANYTHING to spur ratings. I've not been this appalled and disappointed in prime time programming EVER and I've witnessed alot of poor programming over the years! To see people on the verge of a nervous breakdown (or actually having one) as 3000 scorpions crawl on and sting and bite them made me want to spit on the shoes of the exec that gave this show his blessing. I, as a viewer, was wondering about the stings of venom as many veiwers were genuinely concerned for the participants well being which NBC seem to care not. We as viewers didn't know if the bites would sicken them or worse and it gives people the idea that scorpions aren't dangerous or deadly. I wonder how many kids in Texas will start playing with these creatures now that they've seen this prurient episode of Fear Factor. The tingling in the lips of the male participant is a well known side affect of a scorpion sting... he might have even been allergic to them! ------------------------------------------------------ Scorpions - inject venom through a stinger in the tail. In bites from the more dangerous species, there are marked systemic effects within 1 to 2 hours. Fatalities have been recorded. Symptoms from scorpion bites are: (a) Excruciating pain at the site of the sting (b) Nausea and vomiting (c ) Abdominal pain (d) Shock (e) Possible development of convulsions and coma. ------------------------------------------------------ Do you care NBC?? The real fear that I really see here is the fear of NBC losing ratings thus they pray on innocent viewer's fears and their prurient sub conscious to make up for their lack of creativity. Did you consider how scary this would be for children... do you even care?? You can fool some NBC but not those who genuinely care about people!
